Lactose intolerance

Can goat milk products provide a solution?

The lactase enzyme provides for the digestion of lactose. Persons who do not possess this enzyme are lactose-intolerant.

Babies have sufficient lactase to provide for the complete digestion of all the lactose in human milk. Most people lose this ability on adulthood. However some sections of the population in Europe, North America, Australia and New-Zealand are able to digest larger amounts of lactose.

Goat milk contains less lactose than cow milk, and consequently people generally can tolerate goat milk better in comparison to cow milk. The tolerance is improved by consuming smaller portions of milk throughout the day, and consuming the milk in combination with other foods. In general people also exhibit an improved tolerance to fermented milk products containing viable bacteria (such as, for example, yoghurt).
